Job Description: Responsible for all facets of the elementary library program. Demonstrates knowledge of teaching and learning practices. Plans and prepares for instruction, collaborates with teachers, and works with the teachers and middle and high school media specialists to implement the K-12 library program. Develops schedules with input from classroom teachers. Develops and implements criteria for evaluating and selecting all types of media and instructional equipment. Evaluates and selects teaching and learning resources appropriate to the developmental needs of students and supportive of curricular objectives. Motivates and guides students in the development of reading, viewing, and listening skills which encompass both cognitive and affective competencies. Instructs students in skills related to retrieving, documenting, evaluation, synthesizing, and using information sources to meet instructional objectives and personal needs. Supervises students in their use of resources and equipment in the library media center including assessing student use of resources and equipment. Implements the effective use of Technology in the instructional program (on-line information retrieval; word processing; graphics production, and other related uses). Manages the technical aspects of the library circulation and catalog program (Follett's Destiny) in conjunction with the district technology staff. Carries out administrative duties with regard to budget, maintenance of accurate records, communications and policies. Seeks professional relationships with local public and university libraries as well as professional library organizations.
