What is STEM Education?
With all of the hundreds of acronyms that refer to different areas of education, it is easy to get confused! The acronym STEM stands for Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics. The program's approach to education is designed to restructure the teaching of subject areas such as mathematics and science by incorporating technology and engineering into the curriculum. STEM Education can change a typical teacher-centered classroom by encouraging a curriculum that is driven by problem-solving, discovery, exploratory learning, and require students to actively engage in a situation in order to find it's solution.
STEAM education incorporates the "A" for the arts - recognizing that to be successful in technical fields, individuals must also be creative and use critical thinking skills which are best developed through exposure to the arts.
